Call for Applications: United Nations Conference on LLDC3 Young Storytellers Fellowships

Are you a young person in the age group of 18-35 years from a landlocked developing country ? The United Nations Conference on LLDC3 is calling for passionate and creative storytellers in all LLDCs to upload digital content comprising pictures or videos that tell the fascinating stories and experiences of young people in these countries. A certain number of fellows will be fully sponsored to attend the United Nations Conference on the Landlocked Developing Countries 3 (LLDC3) in Kigali in June 2024.

Requirements for Applicants

This call for submission is open to youth aged 18 to 35 from the 32 land-locked developing countries which are as following: Afghanistan; Armenia; Azerbaijan; Bhutan; Bolivia , Plurinational State of; Botswana; Burkina Faso; Burundi; Central African Republic; Chad; Eswatini; Ethiopia; Kazakhstan; Kyrgyzstan; Lao People’s Democratic Republic; Lesotho; North Macedonia; Malawi; Mali; Mongolia; Nepal; Niger; Paraguay; Republic of Moldova; Rwanda; South Sudan; Tajikistan; Turkmenistan; Uganda; Uzbekistan; Zambia; and Zimbabwe.

Qualities of a Storyteller

A storyteller is simply anyone with a great story to tell. If you are active on social media, you tell stories in images or videos every time you capture and post. You don’t necessarily have to hold a professional qualification in photography or an outstanding script; all you need to do is share a meaningful narrative with the rest of the world. This opportunity is available to you if you can share your story using a manageable video or photo.

Requirements for Your Story

Entries must have been created by the entrants. They could be in the form of videos or photos – the sky is the limit as long as you use your purely unprecedented imagination! But they must meet the following specifications:

• Videos: 1080p resolution, no longer than 1 minute
• Images: in JPG or PNG format, minimum 800 x 800 pixels.

Benefits

Selected entrants will be part of a fellowship program, dubbed Landlinked, leading up to the 3rd UN Conference on LLDCs to take place in Kigali in June.

Entry into the Fellowship program will be as below: Fellows will be equipped with professional cameras, trained, and guided through the upgrade of their storytelling skills. A group of fellows – in diverse composition of geographical locations – will be sponsored to showcase their expertise during LLDC3 in Kigali because this event will host most world leaders in 2024.

1. Get Your Content Ready Your content could be a series of compelling stories and unique experiences of young people in LLDCs – their challenges, their triumphs, or simply the vibrant culture of the country.
2. Upload Your Visual on Social Media Between February 16 and March 8, upload it on X , Instagram, LinkedIn, or Facebook! Yes, you can enter on all channels; just make sure you use the same content across channels!
3. Tag the UN-OHRLLS + Use the Hashtag #LockedOut This is fundamental, if you don’t do this, your submission won’t be considered. Tag us . Our channels are X, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook.
4. Stay Tuned Keep checking the #LockedOut hashtag on social media and get your followers to like, share, and tell the world about how LLDCs are #LockedOut! Lastly, keep an eye on OHRLLS’s social media account for the selection of submissions!

Selection Process:

The best entries will be chosen based on the quality of storytelling, including arguments, writing proficiency, and image composition. The selection panel will also give special consideration to entrants whose native language is not English. All submissions will undergo assessment by a panel of judges.

The decision of the panel will be final.
