UNESCO Internship Programme 2024 Now Open for Applications
The UNESCO Internship Programme is a unique opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain a better understanding of UNESCO’s mission, programs, and operations. By taking part in practical and theoretical work, candidates may broaden their minds and professional experiences.

Eligibility Criteria
Age: Applicants must be at least 20 years old.
Academic Qualifications:
- Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate programme or have recently graduated with a Master’s or PhD degree or equivalent or a second university degree or higher.
- Candidates who have completed their full-time bachelor’s degree are not eligible to apply for the internship and must be pursuing a Master’s or a PhD degree.
- Interns must have graduated within 12 months prior to the start of the internship.
Students of a secretarial school or specialized technical/professional institution may apply for secretarial/assistant or technical/professional internship, respectively, if they are completing the course or have graduated within the last 12 months.
Language Skills: Proficiency in English or French, both written and spoken, is required. Knowledge of the other language is an asset
Computer Skills: Expert knowledge of computer systems and all office-related software packages.
Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team. Communication: interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
Communication: Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
Program Details
- Duration: Internships last from one to six months.
- Visa: Interns must secure the correct visas themselves.
- Travel: Interns must arrange and pay for visa arrangements and travel expenses to the duty station.
- Medical Insurance: Interns must present a full health insurance plan covering the entire period valid in the host country. UNESCO only provides minimal workplace accident insurance.
- Medical Certificate: Prior to the internship, interns must submit a certificate from a medical practitioner confirming that they are fit for work. No more thorough medical data are needed.
- Supporting Documents: Interns must submit a copy of the original ID for interns and a certificate of enrollment or diploma for recent graduates before the internship commences.
- Leave: Interns are entitled to 2.5 days for each calendar month of the internship, which can be combined for vacation and sick days.
Application Procedure:
- Prepare documents: Have your motivation letter and CV ready when applying. The application procedure must be completed within one hour.
- Contact details: Ensure that your contact information remains valid for at least six months.
- Language: Applications must be completed in either English or French. If supporting documents are in a different language, include an informal translation.
- UNESCO Policy UNES-16.3: UNESCO will not provide any monetary reimbursement for expenses or damages incurred during the internship assignment.
- Placement: Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee a spot. Due to the high number of applications, not all eligible interns can be accommodated.
- Assessment: Your application will be reviewed by UNESCO managers worldwide. Applications remain active in the internship portal for six months.
