2024 Embassy of France in Nigeria Séjours Scientifiques de Haut Niveau (SSHN) Scholarships
Applications for the Embassy of France in Nigeria’s 2024 Séjours Scientifics de Haut Niveau scholarship are now being accepted. The SSHN program is administered by the French Government Scholarship Programme France Excellence, which is overseen by the embassy of France in Nigeria. The scholarship allows for one month of scientific research for interested academic and research personnel to be completed in France at higher education and research institutions. The program also aims to encourage cooperation with French institutions. In 2024, the Embassy of France will provide 9 scientific grants, each of which will last one month. Due to budget limits and visit duration, more visits may be funded.

Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Any candidate holding a tenure position in a public or private higher education institution or scientific research laboratory accredited by the National Universities Commission.
- Binational Candidates Exclusion: Binational candidates possessing the nationality of one of the countries of the European Union are not eligible for this call.
- Degree: Only PhD students and holders of a PhD degree are eligible. Candidates who have obtained a doctorate more than 5 years ago will hold the position of “confirmed researchers,” while those who obtained it less than 5 years ago will be categorized as “young researchers.”
- Length of Mobility: From 2 weeks (14 days) to 4 weeks (28 days).
- Dates of Mobility: In 2024, only mobilities scheduled between the 15th of September and ending at the latest on the 15th of December, if the institution in France can host the grantee.
Benefits
The scholarship carries a round-trip air ticket, monthly allowance, health and repatriation insurance. Accommodation can be arranged through Campus France Paris, with the rent being deducted from the grant.
Application Procedure:
The eligibility for this scholarship is based on the handling of applications determined by:
- Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Precision of the project;
- Presence of elements ensuring added value and impact of the mobility;
- A clear and complete cover letter and/or letter of invitation containing:
- Description of the activities during the stay;
- Specific motivation reasons for the host organization;
- Previous achievements associated with the project under consideration;
- A connection to research domains covered by home laboratories;
- Actions making room for the emergence of new collaborations.
- Quality assessment and the work plan’s precision are based on:
- Mobility calendar set out by the applicant – With attention paid to preparation conditions.
- The outcome will be sent by email and will include:
- Procedure for compliance with travel and visa arrangements
- The French Embassy in Nigeria will be responsible for connecting the successful candidate with Campus France Paris for:
- Setting up the practical aspects of the mobility;
- Any relevant operation that has not been initiated or approved by June 15th will be automatically canceled.
- This scholarship may not be extended to the following year for any reason.

- 26 February 2024: Launch of the call for applications
- 26 April 2024: Deadline for application
- 29 May 2024: Results announced
- 15 June 2024: Deadline for sending the full file to Campus France Paris
- From 15 September to 15 December 2024: Mobility period in France
