Eligibility to apply:
Applicants must meet the following requirements when applying online for Central South University Scholarship in China:
- Outstanding Non-Chinese citizens, with no criminal record, in good health.
- For Bachelor’s degree, applicants shall have a high school diploma or its equivalent, 18 to 25 years old; for Master’s degree, applicants shall take a bachelor’s degree or above, 18 to 35 years old; for Doctor’s degree, applicants shall have a master’s degree or above, 18 to 40 years old.
- Language requirements: students applying for Chinese-taught programs shall reach a minimum score of 260 in HSK4 for non-medical programs, 200 for medical programs; students applying for English-taught programs shall have a minimum score of 6 in IELTS or 85 in TOFEL. Students who go to the Chinese language programs without reaching the required level are still required to reach the level and pass all relevant exams before they begin the program. In the following three conditions, students are exempted from the language examination:
- Applicants of graduate programs must have a strong academic background and innovative research capacity.
- Some programs have their entrance requirements, and applicants are required to qualify before applying. For more information, please refer to the 2024 Program Catalog.
Documents Required:
- Printed Application form downloaded on CSU CHINA INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICE SYSTEM, with the applicants’ name on it and signed by the applicants’.
- Photocopy of the passport. Over one year availability.
- Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Check. Applicants should be strictly examined in accordance with the requirement of Foreigners Physical Examination Sheet. Incomplete form is regarded as invalid. The examination should after October 1, 2023.
- Photocopy of Highest graduation certificate (or notarized photocopy), if the applicant is currently studying, provide a pre-graduation certificate issued by school.
- Transcript of the highest diploma (or notarized photocopy).
- Non-criminal record with the official stamp. Issue the date should after October 1, 2023.
- Transcript of HSK4 for Chinese-taught program or IELTS\ TOEFL for English-taught program, or any other evidence of your linguistic competence.
- The photocopy of a remittance bill for application fee RMB 500, or USD 90.
- Personal statement. Statement indicating the student does not own any other financial support in any other institution.
- Two different letters of recommendation from professors/ associate professors with detailed contacts. Issuance date should after October 1, 2023.
- Study Plan of no less than 800 words. Explain your research background, method, content and significance, etc.
- Acceptance letter from CSU professors. This is Only for masters and doctorate
- Published essays. Or any other supporting materials.
- Two different letters of recommendation from professors/ associate professors with detailed contacts. Issuance date should after October 1, 2023.

Step 1: Online Application:
Log in CSU China International Student Service System https://intl.csu.edu.cn/index.htm. Register online, select Central South University Scholarship for International Students (CSU Scholarship), and complete the application form. After submission, you have to wait for the result for about 2-4 weeks.
Step 2: Pay the Application Fee and Mail Hard copies of Material:
After passing the online review, pay the application fee of 500 RMB (90dollar) to the designated account receive your MR in 5 days by email. Then, prepare the Above Documents with hard copies of materials IN DUPLICATE in the given order. Incomplete application will be rejected. If you can pass the outcome review or have been refused, please do not pay the application fee and send the admitted hard copies Materials will not be sent to students who have eventually approved or rejected.
