Invitation to the 2024 Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship
Applications are Open for JDS In Kenya Since 2020, the number of MA and Ph.D. fellows JDS has dispatched to Japan is as high as 29 and 2, respectively. JDS is now recruiting potential applicants well acquainted with our goals who are interested in pursuing a graduate diploma program of 2 years or more from Japanese universities throughout the academic year 2024-2025. The language of instruction will be English When they collect, 13 candidates, 12 MA and 1 Ph.D., will be sent out every year.

Masters Program Eligibility Criteria
- Nationality: Citizen of Kenya
- Age: Below 40 years per April 1st, 2024 ; Born on/after April 2, 1984 (Note: Those who work in the central government for policy making and evaluation should be below 45).
- Occupation: Public servants who are working in Target Organizations.
- Work Experience:
- Those who are working in Target Organizations as permanent and pensionable employees (contract staff are excluded from this category).
- Public Servants should have a minimum of 2-year experience with a probation period at the time of application (part-time and voluntary work is not considered).
- Academic Background:
- Bachelor’s degree of university authorized by the Government of Kenya or other countries.
- 16-year formal education is required; however, work experience in academic or research carrier can be considered as an alternative for those who don’t meet the academic requirements.
- English Proficiency: IELTS 6.0 or higher is preferred but not mandatory.
PhD Program Eligibility Requirements
- Citizenship: Citizen of Kenya
- Educational Qualification: Holder of Master’s degree
- Age: Age shall be under 45 years as of April 1st, 2024.
- Affiliation and Research Theme:
- Belonging to the target organizations of the JDS Project and its affiliated organizations in Japan
- The research theme should be relevant to the Development Issues of Kenya.
- Work Experience:
- The applicant shall have worked for at least 2 years as a public servant with a period of probation at the time of application. Part-time jobs and volunteer activities are excluded.
- Recommendation:
- Submit a letter of recommendation from the supervisor of the applicant’s current duty office.
- The reference letter shall include an evaluation of the applicant’s work and an assessment of the suitability of the applicant’s research theme.
Scholarship Benefits
- Selection Costs Coverage: All selection costs will be covered by the JDS project.
- Transportation and Accommodation Allowance: Limited transportation and accommodation allowance will be provided to candidates coming from provincial areas for the selections.

The awards are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the JDS project. The following benefits generally apply:
